Kevin and Jackie met at Bradley University in 2001. In 2003, Kevin helped Jackie move to Reno, NV where she started her Master's Degree in Journalism. They continued their long distance relationship with the help of Apple's iChat and trips to conferences subsidized by Bradley and UNR. In 2004, they repeated their cross country trip driving a car Jackie planned to use in Reno that year. In 2005, Jackie completed her theisis on the Evolution of Online Journalism and Kevin was promoted to the Director of Intructional Technology at Bradley. That summer they drove back from Reno to Peoria, IL where Jackie was hired by Thomson Netg as an Instructional Designer. Kevin and Jackie were married on August 11, 2005. In 2006, Kevin was offered an Administrative Faculty position as the Integrated Media Manager at UNR. 5 years, 7,200 miles, and 4 trips to SXSW later, Kevin and Jackie are living in Reno, NV.
***UPDATE***
So we left Reno in November 2007, packed up the apartment, Belly, and headed Eastward not quite making our yearly trek across the US. We stopped in Denver, our thinking being that we enjoyed all the wonderful outdoor activities Reno has to offer but would like to trade up for a place where we do not see stabbings, shootings, and hate crimes outside of our home.
After six months of apartment living in LODO we bought a house with Kevin's brother, Scott, and his wife, Jessica. We are all happily living in a central Denver duplex.
We also added to my future urban dog sled team and rescued Bug, a Boston Terrier mix (We think he may be mixed with chihuahua or fox terrier). Bug is a nice addition to our family. So we now have Bug and Belly.
Kevin Reynen
Lawrence Lessig has described Kevin's software as "elegant... allowing me to spend more time with my kids". Xeni Jardin (BoingBoing) liked his Crude Dick. Terry Heaton and Matt Haughey have quoted him about digital distribution and digital rights management.
Kevin has always been interested in computers. At 11, he won an Apple II in 1983 for this design he created with a Kola pad. He was lucky enough to learn about the WWW and HTML when they were still being promoted as a way to link citations in academic papers. He combined what he learned while earning his B.S. in Communications from Bradley University with the technical skills he picked up from RTFM and went to Quebecor in 1996 and develop an intranet. Kevin considers iQ one of his most successful projects primarily because it's still running basically unchanged 10 years later.
Jackie Rejfek
Jackie is currently working as a contract Instructional Designer for eCollege in Denver. Before getting into the working world she managed to get 2.5 degrees from Bradley University in 3.5 years (Multimedia, Radio/Television, and (almost) Graphic Design) when she wasn't on one of her 4 trips to Europe as the study abroad webmaster. After Bradley, Jackie went on to get her Masters degree in Journalism from the Reynolds School of Journalism at the University of Nevada Reno while moonlighting as an online editor at the Reno Gazette Journal. Jackie's thesis, The future of online newspapers: a look at authentication, customization, and the changing business models at U.S. dailies' sites, continues to be an evolving topic and will have a home on sidewalk theory.
